Lower School

St. John’s school curriculum, from beginning to end, Form I through Form X, is designed to develop the academic and intellectual habits and skills required for success in secondary school, college, and throughout life.  Knowing that physical activity enhances the learning process, all students have recess daily and physical education class twice weekly.

At the Lower School in Forms III through VI (1st through 4th grades), curricular emphasis is placed on the core subjects of language arts (reading, composition, spelling/vocabulary, and grammar), mathematics, and science.  The strong fundamentals gained in the core subject areas lead to critical thinking, problem solving, and expressive writing skills.  Social studies, art, music, library, Spanish, and computer skills are taught weekly and are an integral part of our students’ academic experience.  Character education opportunities flourish from daily chapel services, weekly divinity classes, and service projects.
