Middle Division Awards Assembly via Zoom
2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
I will send an email with information about joining the Zoom. Students may join by clicking the link posted in the appropriate “Class of” Google Classroom. Although we will not be together in the gym, we are excited to celebrate the accomplishments of our outstanding Middle Division students.
If you are unable to watch the Awards Assembly with your student on his/her iPad, you may watch it via Livestream by visiting st.johneagles.org/live on your phone or computer.

Zoom Costume Contests by grade 10:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.
Wednesday, May 20th
Last Day of School-(No classes) Textbook and iPad return
9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Please plan on coming through the carline to drop off textbooks and iPads. We will give you the contents of your child’s locker, his/her yearbook, art portfolio, and awards. You don’t even need to get out of the car!
We will have stations set up at certain places in the carline to pick up textbooks and the iPad. You will continue driving through the gym parking lot, and we will give you the locker contents, yearbook, and awards.
It is very important we get the textbooks and iPad back on this day. We have to set up Ipads for the next school year!
Grade 5 students need to return social studies, math, and Latin textbooks.
Grade 6 students need to return math and Latin textbooks.
Grade 7 students need to return Latin textbooks.
All Grade 8 textbooks are on the iPad.
Quarter Four Grades
If you tuned into last week’s Facebook Live event, we discussed how we are grading quarter four. Since we are unable to return to school and have tests, students who complete all assignments will earn a satisfactory grade (“S”) in the space on the report card where you would normally see an A, B, C. Some schools are using the pass/fail model, but I don’t feel this model represents the philosophy of St. John’s. The pass/fail model allows for some missing assignments, and we felt it would be difficult to move students through the curriculum if they were skipping or missing assignments.
Our goal throughout quarter four was to focus on all of the parts of student work that create a successful and diligent student who is well prepared. Emphasis has been placed on completing all work in complete sentences with proper grammar and punctuation. The focus in every course has been placed reading informational text, taking notes, and answering comprehension questions accurately by proving strong, detailed answers. In mathematics, students are expected to go back to correct missed problems, raise Khan Academy or IXL scores to solidify concepts. Teachers have spent hours grading assignments and giving feedback on student work during class with the expectation of the student making corrections. If you ask your student to help you take a tour through his or her assignments in Google Classroom, you will see how hard they have worked this quarter.
As I have said many times, we are very pleased with the quality of the work and the students’ commitment to learning. All students should be checking out with the teacher before leaving class in order to prevent accidentally skipping or forgetting to submit assignments. If your child is missing an assignment, the teacher will continue to send you an email.
Schools across the nation are faced with how to quantify this quarter of school, so please do not be concerned. Student transcripts will have a note saying the grading scale was altered due to COVID 19. It will also say the “S” represents the completion of all assignments with the quality and effort expected of a St. John’s student. Year-end averages for courses will be calculated by averaging quarter one-three and first semester exams.
